Public Domain: Steal Someone Else’s Song Without Facing Litigation

Public domains are the opposites of what copyrights are. A public domain is any work (such as a song, book, or drawing) that is available for the public to use freely. Any material given to the public freely, ineligible for copyrighting, or has an expired copyrighting status would be considered as public domain. Therefore, feel free to “steal” some of Beethoven’s pieces for your own recording without receiving a letter of cease and desist. Continue reading

Seeking Funding for Your Music: New and Improved Methods

When starting a new business or seeking support for the life of an established company, people resort to getting funded from outside sources, usually from banks and investors. What I would like to do is introduce to you a method to getting a loan in your business name as opposed to your personal name. That way you protect your personal assets. I would also like to describe four different types of investors. Not all investors become part owner of your business. Continue reading

Words You Speak Set the Tone to Your Career

Bootstrapping: Build a $10,000 Idea With $100

Bootstrapping is the idea of building a business with little or no borrowing (i.e. bank loans) or equity funding (i.e. venture capital investors). The advantage of you implementing this strategy is that the you mature with the business as it grows and you aren’t losing sleep at night over financial debt. The main con of this approach is that your business is likely to grow/expand slowly and revenues take longer to pour in (with some exceptions, however). Bootstrapping allows you to make money out of thin air, and all it takes is you using intellectual property.

Thousands of aspiring musicians use the bootstrapping technique all the time.
